This past weekend, I headed up north to work on a video project with Allison Milligan. This will be our second video story in a series that we’re working on, about sustainable food production. We’ll share more on that this fall, when we’ve had time to edit the footage.
While I was up there, I was lucky to have the most amazing hosts. John Bliss and Stacy Brenner operate Broadturn Farm, a CSA and flower farm (and much more) in Scarborough, Maine. I was so impressed with this operation that I thought I’d share some of the snapshots I took.
Chickens roaming around.
Stacy runs a successful cut flower business, Flora Bliss. She sells to florists, do-it-yourself brides who are looking for beautiful, locally grown flowers, and arrangements which you can purchase through their CSA and for your wedding.

Their picture-perfect cats wander through the farmstead.
And their big, beautiful dog calmly relaxes as the farm prepares for a wedding.
Their Jersey cows munch on pasture and provide milk for the family.
Every single nook of this farm is adorned with lush, blooming plants.
Even their outhouses are beautifully landscaped.
I was seriously impressed with what they’ve done with the land, their intern program, their business, and in general with them as people. Want to learn more about them? Check out their website where you can see much better images than I can take, plus read more about the farmers, their CSA, flower business, weddings and even how you can work with them. Follow them on Instagram. They are also contributors to Taproot Magazine.
