The Homegrown Paleo Cookbook

Many years ago, I turned to my husband and said, “hey, wouldn’t it be so cool if we wrote a book together? Like, a how to grow it – how to cook it type of a book?” Well, two years ago, I actually signed a contract to write it. I began in the first year with writing all of the recipes and then proceded to work with Andrew (my husband, and a seasoned farmer) on the chapters about raising animals and growing vegetables, all aimed to encourage people to get their hands dirty and grow their own food. Included are how-tos to inspire anyone to have a healthy, balanced lifestyle and a closer connection to their food—whether you live in a house in the suburbs, a farmhouse in the countryside, or an apartment in the city. The Homegrown Paleo Cookbook shows you how.

Inside, you’ll learn:

  • How the Paleo Diet is not only great for human health but also for the environment.
  • Helpful guides like “10 Questions to Ask Your Farmer” so that you can be a better informed food shopper.
  • Skills and knowledge to have your own backyard chickens, goats, bees and more.
  • How to build healthy soil and start your own organic vegetable garden.
  • 100 seasonal, farm-to-table recipes, all shot right at the farm.
  • Creative and fun projects like making beeswax candles and goats milk soap

This 400+ page hardcover book is not only a cookbook but a complete guide to growing your own healthy food. In it, you’ll learn everything from beekeeping and backyard chickens, to growing your own lettuce and potatoes. Not in a position to have chickens right now? No problem! This book is meant to help EVERYBODY interested in food learn more about sustainable food production. So, whether you live in NYC or on a ranch in Texas, there is something for everyone inside The Homegrown Paleo Cookbook.

Here, check out my short video of me, on my farm, talking about the book (thank you Allison Milligan for producing it!).

I am so honored to have the preface by Joel Salatin and the foreword by Robb Wolf. The book is also endorsed by some amazing people like Michelle Tam, Allan Savory, Emily Deans, Andrew Gunther, and here are a few more:

“If Martha Stewart went Paleo, the results would look something like The Homegrown Paleo Cookbook. Diana is at the forefront of Paleo 2.0, inspiring readers to go beyond adopting a Paleo diet and embrace a sustainable, back-to-basics lifestyle that puts an emphasis on family, friends, rest, and relaxation—and raising chickens. “Diet alone is not going to save you,” she writes.
But this book might. Sign me up.” – Rene Lynch, Los Angeles Times

“The Homegrown Paleo Cookbook provides the perfect inspiration for those who want to bring the health, beauty, and the freedom of a Paleo diet into other areas of their home, family, and lifestyle.” – Dallas and Melissa Harwtig, New York Times bestselling authors of It Starts with Food

“Diana Rodgers has written a book about getting your hands dirty in the best possible way. From forest to pasture to garden to table, The Homegrown Paleo Cookbook is a joyous, grateful, and gracious map to food that repairs the body as well as the planet. Directions include everything from keeping a pig to building a fairy house. This is a book to feed the soil, the soul, and the world.” – Lierre Keith, author of The Vegetarian Myth

To me, one of the best parts of this book is the photography. Heidi Murphy of White Loft Studio became a good friend and also happened to go paleo, lose weight and get in shape while working on the book. She came to the farm for countless photo shoots, traveled to an island in a boat to capture the clambake, and even trekked out to the woods with a broken leg to shoot our camping section.  I’ve started a Pinterest board that you can follow, with images of recipes and other dreamy shots from the book.
